Three of my friends are gradually building up their training schedule to reach the ultimate goal : finishing a triathlon. Not even dark clouds or wind and rain can stop them from putting on their neoprene suit and jumping in the cold and dark water of the canal.

Haven't been to the site in a while...seriously, this is a great comp and edit. I'd like to see the before, just to get an idea of the amount of manipulation, which by the way doesn't look like much. nice job

I know I'm being repetitive, but ya: so, were you in the water, or on a boat? ;) It's a super shot.

A number of people asked me how I shot this. I was standing in the cold water without a suit (which was crazy), my camera was not in a waterproof bag (which was pretty crazy too) and Barbara was holding her stretched leg above the water in my direction so I could hold on to it while shooting and make sure I wasn't going to lose balance and go under with my camera (which is totally crazy). The triathletes were then swimming in my direction while someone assisting me was holding the flash with shoot-through umbrella (slightly left or right) above the camera.

So be careful if you want to try something like this. :)

Fantastic shot with the hands underwater and still so much part of the overall composition. You really nailed this one with the lights - AND with the whole explanation below you could easily get work in an acrobatic circus! ;-) Well done, buddy!

The secret of a good training is to be methodical. And here he is, in front of your camera, in the water, resisting all the weather conditions to acheive his goal. Superb image, great contrast and great story.
